How to prepare Snake Gourd Poriyal

How to make Pudalangai Poriyal

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 20 mins
Serves : 2 to 3


Snake Gourd / Pudalangai – 1chopped finely (around 3 cups)
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tbsp
Salt to taste

For coconut masala:

Grated coconut little

Dry red chilli: 4 to 5 nos

Jeera: 1 tbsp

Peppercorns: 1 tbsp (optional)

For Seasoning:
Oil – 2 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu – 1 tsp
Dry Red Chilli – 1
Curry leaves – 1 spring


Heat oil into a kadai. Add in all the seasoning ingredients and let it crackle for a min.

Add in chopped snake gourd and saute for a few mins.

Add 1/2 tbsp turmeric and salt and saute it few mins until its raw smell goes away. Add little water and cook it for about 5 to 10 mins or until the water gets absorbed well. Don’t add too much water.

Now prepare coconut masala. Grind all the ingredients listed under coconut masala table.

Add in chopped snake gourd and saute for a couple of mins. Add to cooked snake gourd

Mix it well.

Serve it with rice.
