How to make Palappam without yeast
1 cup idli rice or sona masuri rice
¼ cup coconut, grated
½ tsp sugar
½ tsp salt
pinch of baking soda
First grind soaked 1 cup idli rice with 1/4 cup coconut.
Take 2 tbsp of prepared batter and pour it over pan along with 1/2 cup water just make sure the flame is off.
Combine well and make sure that the batter combines well with water.
Now turn on stove on medium flame and keep on stirring.
Transfer the prepared clooked batter to form apparm batter.
Combine well to make sure that there are no lumps.
Cover and ferment in warm place for about 8 hours.
Add in ½ tbsp sugar, ½ tbsp salt and pinch of baking soda.
Heat appam pan or appachattti over medium flame and pour a ladlefull batter into the pan.
Immediately twirl pan to spread batter in circle motion.
Now cover and simmer it for about 2 mins or until edges turn golden brown and gets cooked well.
finally, carefully remove the palappam / appam from the pan and serve it with vegetable curry.
