How to make Oats pongal

Ingredients:

Oats(I used Quaker quick cook) – 1/2 cup

Moong dal/paasi paruppu – 1/4 cup

Turmeric – 1/8 tsp

Salt – As needed (I added 1/2 tbsp)

Water – 1 cup (adjust as per needed)

 

To Temper:

Ghee/oil – 1 tbsp

Pepper – 1 tbsp

Jeera – 1 & 1/2 tbsp

Asafoetida – 1/4 tbsp

Ginger Chopped – 1 tbsp

Green Chilly – 2

Curry leaves – A sprig

 

Method:

Pressure cook moong dal well until its mushy. Crush jeera and pepper coarsely, slit green chillis. In a heated pan, add oil or ghee and temper it with items given in order under medium flame. Add water, salt, turmeric and bring them to boil.

Add cooked dal and oats and combine well. Cook until you get porridge consistency.

Cover an cook it in low flame for about 2 to 3 mins until you get desired consistency.
