How to make Mango Drumstick Vatha Kuzhambu


Mango (unripe) – 1/2

Drumstick – 1

Tamarind – 1/2 tbsp packed

Onion, chopped – 1/4 cup

Garlic, chopped – 2 tbsp

Sambar powder – 1 tbsp

Turmeric – 1/8 tbsp

Salt – As needed

Jaggery – 1/4 tbsp

Curry leaves – few

To temper

Oil – 1 tbsp

Mustard – 1/2 tbsp

Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tbsp

Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp

Curry leaves – a sprig



Soak tamarind into hot water for about 30 mins and extract its juice. Make about 3 cups by adding more water.

Boil 2 inch cut drumstick into a cup of water for about 4 to 5 mins. Heat a Kadai, temper it with given under “To temper”

Add finely chopped garlic and onion. Fry them until it gets golden in colour

Add them to the boiling drumstick along with the tamarind extract.

Add Sambar powder, turmeric and salt goes in. Boil it 4 mins furthermore.

Add mango cut into 6. Boil them for another 4 mins or until the pulp turns soft.

Pour rice flour dissolved in tbsp water to boiling kuzhambu. Add jiggery and combine well.

Continue boiling for about 2 mins. Switch off stove and now add few curry leaves.
