How to prepare Paruppu rasam

I normally prepare tomato rasam and pepper rasam always as i was not interested in rasam much. My native is Kerala where they normally dont prepare rasam always. Since im in Tamil Nadu people here love to have rasam with rice but I normally dont like rasam. I prepare either if my husband love to have or if i prepare any non vegs then will prepare rasam. Recently i met my friend who is from Andhra she gave me ideas on many rasam recipes from her ideas i have chosen one and shared it in this blog. Soon more rasam recipes will be coming soon. Oil: As required
Mustard seeds: 1/2 tbsp
Boiled toor dal: 1 cup
Tomatoes: 1 large chopped
Curry leaves: handful
Coriander leaves: little
Garlic: 3 to 4 pods
Pepper pods: 6 to 7
Turmeric powder: 1/4 tbsp
Cumin seeds: 1/2 tbsp
One lemon size tamarind soaked in hot water
Salt: 1 tbsp
Asafoetida or hing: 1 to 2 pinch
dried red chillies: 2 nos


Into a heated kadai add oil
Add mustard seeds

Add tomatoes dried chillies, curry leaves.

Add salt and saute the tomatoes until its mushy.
Add the grinded mixture, we have to grind 4 to 5 garlic, peppercorns and cumin seeds

Add it into the kadai and saute it well.
Add chilli powder to it and then add cooked dal

Add cooked toor dal to it.

Add tamarind water to it.

Add a pinch of asafoetida and salt.
Add coriander leaves.

Close it cook it for a while.

Dal rasam is done.

Have it with steamed rice.
