How to make Sorakkai paruppu kootu

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 25 to 30 mins
Serves : 4


Yellow Split Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu – 3/4 cup
Garlic – 2 cloves
Shallots / Sambar Onion – 3
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Water – 2 cup

For preparing coconut masala paste:
Grated Coconut little
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Green Chilli: 2-4 nos

For Seasoning:
Oil – 1 tbsp
Ghee – 1 tbsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tbsp
Onion – 1 small chopped finely


Take bottlegourd and all the ingredients mentioned in a cooker, cover with water. Pressure cook it with 4 vessels at low flame.

Once it’s done allow the pressure to get released and remove it from flame.

For preparing coconut masala. Add all the ingredients mentioned under the table “For preparing coconut masala paste”.

Grind it to a fine paste.

Add it into the bottlegourd dal and add required salt.

Do not boil too much. Just leave it aside to cook for 5 to 10 mins.

 Now make seasoning by heating oil, add in cumin and let it sizzle. Add in onions, garlic and chillies. Saute till golden,

Pour this over the dal and mix well.
